... I continue my trip report ... please refrain from posting anymore of that degrees and kevin bacon crap - who is that kevin bacon anyway? Put that kind of thing into the fish box.
So... Ninew has a great personality and is a kind and balanced person.
After I sent her away, it was something like 11pm and I got hungry, so I tried the PBR room service.
I ordered kao pad gai and some pork with garlic. Neither was very tasty. The fried rice tasted bland and the pork was very chewy and full of tendons. Definitely not coming from the best piece of meat.
I never ordered again from PBR room service.
There's one thing in the PBR that is rather odd: you have to pay for laundry and room service as soon as they bring what you ordered, they don't put it on your bill. Is that a ploy to tickle more tips?
I slept a good night, went at 10 or 11 to get a breakfast at the villa diner, bought a couple of books and went back to the PBR. Then I read a couple hours one of the new Jason Bourne novels (written by Eric van Lustbader, because Robert Ludlum is most regrettably RIP now).
The new Bourne novels are ok, but I miss the original Ludlum style of the seventies and spy stories. Terrorism is not spionage. Also, all the new stories are about the same new old enemy: islamic terrorism. Clancy, Ludlum, Reich... they all write about the same and it gets old.
Bah...
So before I left Bangkok for my swiss zurich jail I bought 3 books by John Burdett. I've gotten as far as 50 pages through the first one, and I must say that guy has only limited writing skills, but the story makes up for it. Anyway, I read books for a good story and not for reading elegant use of english.
Plus, the stories take place in Bangkok, so I feel like I'm still in Thailand, and this is great.
The main character in the novel already visited Nana Plaza twice in the novel - what's not so great is that there is no Nana Plaza around here

... in the PBR, I read a couple of hours and then fell asleep for the afternoon.
I guess the flu caused a secondary infection, maybe in the lung, so that I was happy about my purchase of antibiotics.
I slept till 5pm, time to think about what to do in the evening.
There are people who criticized on this forum the location of the PBR. I can't support these opinions. The PBR is very conveniently located in the center, within reach of everything by foot:
- 5 mins to Obsessions/Kitten club
- 10 mins to walking street
- 15 mins to soi 6
- 10 mins to the baht bus terminal to Jomtien
- 5 mins to soi diana / bukao
Inspite of my fever, the 15-minute walk to soi 6 failed to make me sweat.
If you need a lift, there are motosaï taxis at the back entrance of the avenue mall until late in the night (3am?).
Plus the hotel's tuktuk will drive you half way to the Jomtien baht bus terminal (i.e. up soi 15 until shortly before the intersection with second road) or to soi bukao.
I headed back to Jomtien where I played pool a very long time with New, drinking one hot tea after another.
I then took her out for dinner at one of the beachside restaurants, where they serve grilled meat.
I was still feeling like shit, but I was hungry.
New had some exotic european food - I can't remember what, but she told it was delicious and that she never ate that before.
My grilled skewer combo was not bad, but neither was it good. It was just ok.
I guess I will have lots of research to do in Patts/Jomtien to find the places with quality food.
We headed back to the PBR, but I was struck by a new outbreak of fever, and this time got very very hot. I took my medicines and slumped only minutes after. no boom boom this night.
I woke up with New asleep by my side the next day. she left at about 9 am, I was again feeling like shit.
I wasn't hungry at all, but I forced myself to eat some cookies I bought in the 7-11, and sat down in the reading area of the PBR (second floor above reception). I would sit there a couple of times more in the next days.
There was one guy apparently staying there longtime (room on the second floor) with an older looking tall ladyboy with a great body (older looking doesn't mean old, but I would guess she was around 30).
I saw them coming in and out the PBR several times.
After my cookies were used up, and I was fed up reading the book, I went back to my room.
You must know I had brought quite a lot of work with me on the notebook, but I was so sick that I couldn't concentrate on anything.
I was checking mails and reading the last forum posts here when tiredness came over me again.
I slept until 4pm, and then I read some more.
I was feeling a little better and decided to explore Koh Larn the next day.
I would need to hire a cute guide with whom I can speak, so I headed back to the so What bar on Soi 6 that night...
