Software for ripping dvd to mp4's

A few members here and myself know our way pretty well around windows and the internet and can assemble a computer without directions. We don't know everything, but we'll be happy to help.

Does anyone have a favorite freeware to do this?

not sure if mp4 is the format you want.

do you want to rip everything, including menus, etc. or just the movie parts?

I got 2, but I think they are not freeware (not sure):
anvsoft dvd converter professional (does MP4 and a good list of other formats)
and
joboshare dvd ripper platinum (also does MP4)

both can process in batches, when you wake up you got 30 movies :-)

and then there is the freeware SUPER:
http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

supports virtually any format I have ever heard of, plus about 20 times more that number.
I'm unsure about batch processing, but is does MP4

It is complicated and buggy though, will crash fairly often (depending on which formats are being converted, some are safe) - which was the reason why I got the other two.
But SUPER gets the job done most of the time - you should give it a try.
